Randomness for 6/28

1. I can forsee a future, bleak indeed, where I will look back on having missed the Taste of Chicago.

2. The resurrection of my laptop -- in which David reinstalled Windows 2000, saved his data by backing it up onto Jenny's computer via our home LAN, wiped the hard drive clean and installed Windows 2000 again -- went off without a hitch except for one small detail: I forgot to back up my fonts. It is easy to forget this, but fonts are valuable, pirateable software same as anything else (not that I would dare to pirate fonts, officer), and until now I didn't realize how many of my typefaces had been 'borrowed' from friends, cribbed from any number of stolen copies of Adobe Illustrator, etc. This will really impact the way I work.

3. Yay, I can show up on Weblogs.com same as everyone else. (But it doesn't make me any sexier. I mean, what could?)

4. My grand plan for this site involves eventually tweaking Movable Type to use the original structure of Practical As It Existed Two Septembers Ago, with reviews going under /cine and other stuff going wherever. This plan recently experienced a catastrophic setback, but I believe it to be a good plan. Of course it's a good plan. Don't ever tell me it's not a good plan! Who are you to tell me it's not a good plan?!?!

5. Next million-dollar invention: kittyproof network cards for laptops.
